They are a little wild and "out there"

Sort of. The freewheel is a mechanism using pawls ( sprung sticky-out teeth thingies- I think Ken Dodd has the patent) and a ratchet cog inside the hub to allow you to stop pedaling so the wheel spins round.Another daft question ( I am ignorning the gear thing, I have had the gear thing explained thoroughly but I am still a bit huh? the bikey fixey man will be explaining the gear thing to me with visual aids)
Whats a freewheel? I thought fixed wheel you did not have gears? or is it that you just have one cog and one gear and so you need to change the gear to one that suits you?
I hope you realise what is going on or at least when it comes to explain why bicycles have 2 wheels.Sort of. A fixed gear bike has no freewheel, so the rider cannot coast...they still have to pedal downhill. They are mostly ridden by men with beards and satchels.
A bike with just one gear on the back wheel is a single speed. It may or may not have a freewheel. Some have flip flop hubs that can be reversed to give the rider a choice.
Flip flop hubs are rarely found on a beach cruiser, despite the name.
If a bicycle didn't have two wheels it would be a unicycleI hope you realise what is going on or at least when it comes to explain why bicycles have 2 wheels.

Ah I see. Now I understand that makes sense.... See @potsy now I understand the bit about turning the wheel around.Sort of. Interesting (and rare) use of the correct terminology from someone who claims to know nothing
I'm perfectly aware of what's going on, but thank you for your input just in case.....I hope you realise what is going on or at least when it comes to explain why bicycles have 2 wheels.

and 3 would make it a tricycle! If a bicycle didn't have two wheels it would be a unicycle
Oh dear.No you do not. See post 10.
Seriously? I do not claim to know nothing, I claim to know very little. So as a *spoiler alert* for you this thread if someone also says something I do not understand is likely to be filled with what some people may think are "stupid" questions and I am grateful for the people who are willing to take time to explain things to me preferably in terms of "sprung sticky-out teeth thingies" so that I can understand. So if all you are willing to contribute is snide remarks and digs *move along nothing to see here*
Like I said, 'fixed wheel' suggests someone who actually knows what they're talking about. I just think you know more than you're letting on - or maybe it was just a lucky guess. Anyway, for that reason, ah'm oot.
Oh TVC
