Glad you got it sorted and found a good bike shop. I think 2500miles is pessimistic for a cassette under most circumstances. I'd figure on doubling that with a new chain every 1000miles or so. Trouble is you tend to only wear maybe only 2 or 3 rings. What you can do on a triple is ride the middle ring with large gears (small cogs) and the large front ring with smaller gears (large cogs) and spread the wear. Obviously trying to avoid extreme chain lines.

Trouble is there are so many variables, weather conditions, the local geology (abrasive sand), maintenance, physical strength and riding style.

As for the front, my cheapo Shimano Nexave it over 10 years old with what must be more than 20,000miles and it' not worn out yet. One of my other bikes has TA rings which I am certain will outlive me.

It sounds to me that the chain was run far too long and that damaged the cassette and rings.
