Absolutely.
I’m also happy (And I literally mean happy) to pi55 money into the wind, for my hobby, for something that consumes a fair part of my life and for something that I really enjoy.
If that means I service bikes ahead of time, change parts before they absolutely need going, buy parts ‘just because’’ have 4 spare pairs of the same shorts; and a hoarde of brand new spare parts for multiple bikes just incase - that’s absolutely my prerogative.
Equally I get satisfaction from doing precisely the opposite to your first point - ensuring that everything lasts as long as it can (as long as this isn't to the detriment of other stuff) and runs as efficiently as possible.
I do also accumulate spares as a safeguard against getting caught out, a means of buying cost-effectively (get them in when you see them cheap) and to avoid future grief when stuff needs to be replaced - eliciting the need for further research and decision making if a direct replacement for what I currently have is no-longer available.
I'm happy to spend my modest earnings on nice things, but want to look after them as much as possible and avoid waste wherever possible; even if the absolute (financial) cost is minimal on the grand scheme of things.. Of course there's also the environmental cost of binning stuff before its dead - again a drop in the ocean, but one more thing I'd rather not have on my conscience.
