By cog's I mean those two little tensioners that drop off the rear of the drivetrain taking up the slack in the chain, is that the correct place to oil?

Can someone please clear this up for me. What lube should i use for wet weather riding (ie winter time) and what lube would i be best using in the summer (dry riding)

Is it Finish line Dry Lube for dry weather

and Finish line wet lube for wet weather.

I understand the most important thing is wiping, wiping and more wiping with a little lubing

Just dribble some on occasionally, when your chain looks a bit dry, then wipe.

Nice clear and simple video that. The chain and cassette looked pretty clean to begin with (not like the mucky mess mine tend to get into!) but the techniques the same either way... just takes longer to get it looking clean. Well, clean-ish in my case!

Ah, thanks - looking at that, it looks like the critical point is that it's a thinner, water-based lube - I'd assumed bike-based ones used oil like the m/c versions.

Thought I suspect on my recumbent, most of it would wind up sitting in the chain tubes

Hmm...got a question.

Normally - from mostly riding an mtb over the last 20 yrs- I'd periodically remove/degrease/relube chain to remove all the mud/grit.

Now all my mileage is on-road on the bent, and *not* wiping after lubing, there's the expected black greasy build up in the inside of the sideplates, and the outside of the innermost sideplates (IYSWIM). Other than removing the chain and degreasing completely, any useful suggestions on how to remove the build up without degreasing? I guess one option is to painstakingly do each link in turn with some old towelling/toothbrush, but I've about 3 chains-worth to do Tho' mebbe if I do it once, lube/wipe thereafter should be a lot cleaner...
