The lure of a fancy bike worth a few k is very tempting and i will never regret buying my TCR as its a joy to ride but i don't think i would ever race it as i don't want to break it . The other problem with it is upgrades . How do you upgrade the wheels on a 2.5k bike ? You buy 1.2k wheels and Zipp everything . Then you buy saddles worth a few hundred quid and carbon bottle cages  All good fun but it wont make you faster .
I've been buying almost new but second hand parts for a while now . Pick up the bargins from forums when they pop up . I've just upgraded the TT bike to Ultegra from low end Sram for @ £150 . I have wheels for every thing you can throw at me :stop: and spares should something go wrong .
My cheaper TT bike with second hand parts is faster than my TCR .

Ignore the knockers here! They are both great frames. I have an S2 - it's a slightly more relaxed geometry as I don't race or do TT's. I've upgraded to Force 22 + Dura Ace C24 wheelset and it's a fantastic bike to ride.

I'm sure you'll be very happy with your S5!

I tested a 2014 S5 and loved it. VERY stiff and obviously uber aero.

Had crap wheels on it but still went like the clappers.

Still always look on eBay for a bargain, enjoy your new bike!

Get the s5. If you get s2 then you'll keep thinking about s5.
That's making the bizarre assumption that if he buys the better bike, he will be satisfied.

If you get the S2, you'll probably think about the S5. Unfortunately, if you get the S5, you'll eventually be thinking about the S6, or the 2017 S5 or Di2 equipped S5 etc etc. N+1, it's a slippery slope. You'll never be happy.

Seriously, you know that the people who beat you in club races will not have a good bikes as this - and the ones that do have similar bikes will be much older than you? It's a great bike to lead the pack on, not one to catch up with them at the top of a hill.

You start to read reviews like this one:
http://www.bikeradar.com/road/news/article/cervelo-s5-aero-road-bike-relaunched-for-2015-42254/

And you think to yourself that although the 2014 version is good, the 2015 version is 35% stiffer in the bottom bracket and maybe it's that lack of stiffness which is holding you back, and that extra 21.3W at 40kph must be useful even though you've no idea what those numbers actually mean.

And so on it goes.

Then I guess when he's unhappy with s5 further down the line, he can create a new thread about what he'll get next. We'll be waiting.
