Ooh, a local ride - I may well be up for this.

Just thinking ... what's the recommended route from Queen Street to Braehead? 5 miles of route finding through Weegieland to get to the start - how long might that take, allowing for stopping & navigating by map (don't have a GPS)? Optional arrival times from Edinburgh would be 9:19, 9:37, 9:50 (the latter probably cutting it a bit fine)

The critical bit really for helping me decide whether I can make it is the estimated return time though ... is the 3.5-4 hours for the ride including stops realistic? (I know, how long is a piece of string )
10:30 + 4 hours + getting back to the station + train journey ... home by 4:30pm if I'm lucky ... hmmm

Route from Queen St would be something like St Vincent St->Wellington St->Argyle St->James Watt St->along Clyde->Squinty Bridge->Govan Rd->Braehead.

It's only a light diversion from my ride out from the east side of town so I could accompany you on the way. It will probably take 30-35 minutes.

Based on the speed of previous CC Ecosse rides I'd say 4 hours is possible, but I wouldn't count on it.

Thanks for the route advice (don't know Weegieland at all well, apart from the bit between Queen Street & Central stations ) and offers to let me tag along from QS to Braehead!
Now I just have to decide what's the latest train I can afford to catch (for other stuff later on) ..

P.S. I take it the hamstring injury sorted itself out, @mr messy ?

Pretty much @Telemark, there's still a "little knot" if i try to push hard but can live with that especially if there's cake to be had....;)
As @Rasmus said should only take 30 minutes along suggested route unless you want to take the "scenic" route through the Clyde Tunnel....

Aye, I've heard about the Clyde Tunnel  ... prefer the Squinty Bridge

What's this cake you mention?

It's a popular highly effective motivational tool that, in some circles, efficiently encourages consensus with the provider's aspirations and ambitions....;)

People who came to the ride last year may remember that the cake stop in Lochwinnoch charged somewhat extortionate prices for their products. While out with the GRCM people yesterday we stopped at a coffee shop in Kilmacolm that was slightly less expensive (although not exactly cheap), and with good fast service. Could be an option for this ride as well.

Don't know if I'm stepping out of place being a new member and all and don't know if you guys have a route planned but I done a cracking 27 mile circuit yesterday from Renfrew.

I went from Renfrew towards Br of Weir, turned right to Kilmacolm, over the hills to Bishopton then back to Renfrew. Some good up hills (too much) and some cracking downhills where I managed 44mph before bricking it!

Took me just under 2hrs.

I'll not make this one as we'll be driving don to Kintyre for the MoK Bike challenge on the Sunday,
That's a nice route. I've only ever done it anti-clockwise but particularly between Claonaig and Campbeltown it's very nice.

(I will add that no route in Kintyre should be allowed to call itself "ultimate" if it doesn't feature the lighthouse road )

Have a great ride everyone!

Jeez, it's almost the 12th! Somehow it's almost been a month since I posted this thread! I'm still coming (despite my lack of training).

Weather is supposed to be cold but dry which is good so wrap up warm.

So far we've got:

jazloc
Rasmus
Harry_Palmer79
mr messy (how's the leg?)

@Inthecup, @phantasmagoriana, @Telemark - you coming?

Sorry @GBC, @Col5632 and @Edwardoka (I still haven't met you!) that you guys can't make it

I'll have to give this a miss if it's this Saturday. I've made it in to the final of a national golf tournament and the prize is a little better than cake!!

Keep me in mind if there any other meets in the area over winter.
