Have you decided which route you would like to do?
I would like to do the Ross and String Road E-W (given that they're pretty much the only roads on Arran I haven't ridden), but from a pragmatic point of view, I'm crap at climbing and would hold everyone back. So probably Option 2.

I'm no climber either, I have the same fear about holding the stronger guys up but option 1 looks like a real test

Hills should be treated as roads that curve upwards, some more than others, find a rythm and stick to it you will get to the top eventually, leave the hammering up to the pro's-it takes a lot of drugs to do so. A wise old man of this parish gave me a good tip a long time ago 'you can only ride what's in front of you'

I'll sign up for route 1.
Whichever group hits the cake stop first could wait (and have more cakes BUT NOT ALL THE CAKES) until group 2 arrive?
I will be driving from Dollar via Kincardine Bridge and will have space for another bike and passenger if anyone needs a lift.

Myself amd tug are also from the wee county, I'm tempted towards staying in Ayr night before, but not fully decided.
