Anyone here dabble in CB Radio?

I had one in the late 70s in Australia the main use was for emergences, when I came back to the UK I had a listen to one, loads of swearing and used my dickheads......have been told it is a lot better now

yes, in the late 70's early 80's. Bought it off a chap called 'TubeTrucker' he worked on the London Underground.
My handle at the time was Ironfist. Used to be thousands of users.

'Convoy' by C W McCall was the first 'grown up' single I had, it came with a little booklet of CB language which I thought was great at the time, but 'negatory good buddy' to the OP.

All that CB lingo sounded cool spoken with a Texas drawl, but just plain stupid with a Geordie of Scouse accent.

Had one for before graduating to amateur radio, which I'd always hoped to get into.

Unfortunately, when I came into amateur radio, according to a lot of the older 'hams' I talked to, it was already in decline. They said things like: "You'd have loved it 30 or 40 years ago." I enjoyed acquiring kit and setting up antennas, and for a while it was fun seeing how far I could get a signal out and how many countries I could accumulate. But many of the contacts were too brief and very repetitive - not quite what I'd expected when I studied for the exam.

I've not been active for several years now though. As an entity, both CB and amateur radio has largely been supplanted by mobile phones / the internet IMO.

A pal of mine had one in his car and one evening coming home from the pub I was in the passenger seat so I grabbed it and started messing around. Within a few minutes I'd started chatting with some girl but about two minutes after that she told me "YOU'RE DRIVING AND YOU'RE DRUNK! YOU SHOULDN'T BE DRINK DRIVING!" so I gave that up as a bad job.

Somewhere in the past, I did have a cb radio, I also ventured onto amateur radio, still have a yaesu ft817 lurking around here somewhere...

Blimey yeah, in the late 70s. Used to keep us occupied for hours in the evenings. It seemed like everyone had one. I havnt heard of anyone who's got a home setup for years now.
