Not had cataracts but used contact lenses for a while when I had to drive for work and also be able to read reasonably close at other times of the day.
Didn't find specs so convenient for work, but use them rather than contacts now I'm away from that job.
Only needed one lens for distance as other eye was fine for reading and with the distance lens in my dominant eye, all was fine.
Decided to try multifocal contacts once but found that they weren't as sharp for distance or for reading, so I was worse off.
No idea if implanted lenses would be the same.
Guess it depends on how well your brain interprets the images.
