You will not notice a new cassette with an old chain at all. It will work as per normal.

Spacers fitted and chain ticking over like a mouse eating tissue. Thanks all. So lesson is 10 speed when fitting to 11 speed hub requires 1.0mm and 1.85mm spacers

The 1 mm spacer is only required with 105 cassettes (as far as I'm aware) - effectively it is part of the cassette.
But I think that's what you meant anyway

Yup. Only need the second spacer if it's supplied with the cassette. That's assuming that they send it when required, obviously!
