Once upon a time time trialists may have ridden out to events with their race wheels tied to their drops.

Yes. Problem is they would use special brackets to attach hubs-to-hubs. I've got some, but forget the name! 🤦‍♂️

You could probably just ride with the rims dangling free from the bottom of the drops, but I haven't tried this ...

You mean these wheel carriers, which I've got on eBay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166799757634

How good are you at hula hooping on a bike?

I bought a pair of wheels from my LBS (which isn't really local, but besides the point) and used the helmet pouch thing on a backpack to carry them home, about the same distance you are talking about, but mostly urban.

You could tape the rims together and do something similar.

Just remembered that I borrowed SWMBO's dutch style ladies bike to pick up some wheels as it had a rack. 38mph on a dutch bike downhill on a dual-carriageway towards Leeds was scary, but that's another issue.

I strapped one wheel to the rack and carried the other in my left hand, over-taking a roadie uphill on the way home  . All fine until I tried squeezing between two bollards, forgetting I'd got the wheel strapped on the back :headshake:

I'll also have a small rucksack, but I don't think I could realistically lash them to that. I did wonder about hanging them over my shoulder like a messenger bag, but suspect this might get a bit tired over the length of the ride.

This is the way, head and one arm through and that arm can 'nip' it to your side to stop them moving. Id tape the two runs together first though.

Most unlike you to overthink a simple problem 😉

That's the way I would do it as well

Thanks all - in the end I caved and took the car which was somewhat horrible thanks to a consignment of escaped sausages on the M40.

Tried sticking the rims over my head / shoulders when carrying them back to the car and tbh it sucked; so I'm glad I didn't commit to 10 miles of that on the bike!

I hope that wasn't your sausage supply to your butcher ? Could be real bad if it was.

Crikey - didn't think of that

Saw that on the local news, looked nasty. Luckily we avoided it.
Yeah, not pleasant. Has screwed the roads around here all day - crawling traffic through the village for pretty much 12hrs straight.

Don't know whether you saw the TVP responses on social media but I though they were pretty poor tbh - I'm sure the driver found the puns and wise-cracks hilarious, considering they apparently had to be cut from the cab.
