From the look of it, the front brake calipers will fit the 27 inch wheel, but the rear calipers look a bit tight to get the correct alignment of the blocks.. It might need a different caliper.

I would have said 27" were the original wheel size.
Check that both calipers are the same drop as easy to swap front to rear.

Was helping a mate put this back together today. A lovely thing. Not convinced the Sachs Huret rear mech is correct, what would its original have been?

Wheels are knackered so he’s bought some modern wheels but mistakenly bought 27” whereas I believe they should be 700C. Is this right?

Orignal would have been a Huret Svelto.

Blimey I'd forgotten the Svelto, I was knee deep in them at the bike shop. Lol

Carlton switched to the Simplex made of Delrin, the rivets holding the mech parallelogram wore a bit so need checking if you are going to use one.

The Carlton Clubman I rode to school in the 60's came with a Simplex rear mech. When it broke it was replaced with a Sun Tour Skitter, iirc. Upgraded the C34 chains to 10 speed, too, or at least the bike shop did, B W Lee Cycles, Sutton Coldfield.
