Hi all, I've just joined.

I was hoping someone could help me identify an old Carlton model that I inherited from my grandfather who passed away this year aged 98. He used to do a lot of cycling but the bike that I inherited is not in the best condition. It is painted a strange peachy colour that I plan to strip at some point and it has a mismatch of parts and the forks are horribly bent. On the plus side it has a nice Milremo stem, nice Shimano shifters and Stronglight cranks.

I plan to resurrect it as an indoor trainer but was hoping to get some more info on the frame model and year. There was a 531 decal on it, and there are some numbers underneath the bottom bracket - G4851. The rear dropouts have Brev Campagnolo written on them.

Many thanks
David

Welcome , I've got a crib for the frame number dates somewhere but I guess Spokesmann on here will beat me to it lol

Chrome forks and lugs remind me of a Kermesse

Any more pics of the whole frame

The left near side is damaged (slight crease) and sits about an inch forward of the right and a bit higher. When I mount the bike in the rollers the frame leans to one side and doesn't track straight. I've taken quite a lot of frame measurements and I think the frame is straight.

Also....that horrible peachy colour is probably original. Collectors might well drool over it.
I like the colour

Hi, a quote from the old Carlton website might help : -
' Some models, the Professional and Giro d'Italia models have been identified, had a letter and numbers. I am aware of bikes with D, F and G. My initial view is that D was 1968-69, E was 1969-70, F was 1970-71 and G was 1971-72, when the numbers changed to the new scheme. '

Thanks
Terry

Sorry because I'm new every comment I make goes to moderation so I can't reply on line with the conversion.

It's definitely peach not orange. No frame number on the rear drop outs as can be seen in the new pics attached

Appears to have bottle cage bosses on the downtube, now baffled as to what it left the factory as, also a lamp boss on the forks.
