Hello I'm completely new to this site - so bear with me.
I have an old Carlton Continental. I love it, it's beautiful, but it's a project, nowhere near roadworthy.
I guess I'd like to know more about it.
I feel that it's very old, but maybe it's not as old as I'm imagining! Maybe from the 60's?
So, it's definitely a Carlton Continental, as it has all the original stickers and the Carlton Cycles Worksop badge at the front.
It's green with darker green Bluemels "Sprint Veloce" mudguards.
It has Weinmann brakes
Serial number 0247364 on the frame by the back wheel.
It has the original red C caps on the wheel spindle.
The saddle is a leather Wrights original.
There are probably some other important issues that I've not spotted.
The bad news is that it's got some rust, the saddle isn't in great condition and it just needs a good old overhaul.
Anyway, I'd like to ask you experts if there's anything else I should be looking out for?
Should the year letter prefix be by the serial number - and if it isn't, does that mean it's more likely to be from the 70's?
Any ideas/ advice/thoughts?
Thanks
