I don't think the weight difference of a few grams makes a jot of difference to us mortals. However, just knowing it is lighter gives a psychological effect that can be immeasurable on occasions.
How much does the water in the bottle weigh?

I went for a carbon bottle cage. Why? Well I bought a new bike made of carbon and wanted a carbon bottle cage too. No other reason really and I will probably buy another one so I can have two on the bike for longer rides.

All in all the cost of a carbon bottle cage vs a non carbon one was fairly inconsequential in comparison to the cost of the bike, so why not have carbon?

I bought my bottle cages (Elites) on appearance, so I understand it. But if you are thinking about weight, a millilitre of water ways a gram (gotta love the metric system), so the difference in weight between the two cages is about the same as a teaspoon of water. So you could squeeze a splash of water on the ground before starting - or just a big spit- for the same weight saving effect.

yes but i contend that even in the very highest race levels, the weight difference between a 31 g plastic cage and a 25 g carbon one really wont make a difference.

It won't and as far as I know, most pro's use Elite Custom cages made form plastic. However, if people want and appreciate the carbon counterparts, why not.

The fixation on weight says more about those who are arguing against carbon cages than it does those who want them. Especially the ignoramus' who are saying it is a "waste of money".

how so?

i do think each to their own really, i mean its the same as going to the supermarket, if you have the money to throw around swallowing the marketing bs and paying four times wht you need to for a good bag of peppers or whatever, who am i stop dissuade you?!

I carry my Ribena cartons in my back pockets as they don't fit in any cage I have tried. No cage at all is 25g lighter than a 25g carbon bottle cage and a lot cheaper too if my maths are right.

Can matching carbon bottles be obtained? Halfords sell carbon bottle cages.

I have a plastic Elite cage on the Pearson...I have no recollection of buying it and even less of fitting it! Looks better than the metal one that was on it though!

Buy whatever makes you happy, can't take it with you I guess!
