This is my TDF so far. With Mavic Aksiums and tyres, Selle italia saddle and phat tape. Gonna replace the drive train soon. It's become a bit of an obsession. I don't really know why.

Ello all I have a carrera tdf and really enjoy it tbf and as they were so cheap to buy for a decentish bike everyone has them  so I really wanted to buy some carbon bit and bobs to look slightly more different and stylish does anyone know what I could buy etc
I'd say one of the least costly ways to differentiate your bike is with the handlebar tape.

Could also consider saddle, cranks and pedals, and tyres would be another big one!

Apart from Halfords build quality, the TDF is a fantastic entry level road bike. It does everything a novice needs it to do....... fairly lightweight for the price and good colour scheme !
If the rider wants to slowly upgrade components to improve performance or comfort then who is anyone to judge. I have the same bike and my first upgrade was obviously pedals. However I shall be investing in new tape as the standard ones are very thin, and then some decent tyres.
Come spring I am looking at perhaps some carbon forks as I have heard from many people that it reduces road buzz !!??
Can't understand why people are saying it's pointless upgrading this bike. Of course it's worth it,... if not for performance, for comfort !!!!

I was in Halfords today looking at ..... well ..... everything  They have a trainer for £119 , I thought that was for the bike on it
Ive looked at the situation this way . The money I was going to spend on my defy 5 I am now putting away for a better bike .
Having said that , if I want to throw my money at something that isn't worth it then that's up to me as I have earned the money . I think people are just trying to say don't bother unless you want to learn the hard way .

I don't think anyone is saying 'don't upgrade it' - I think the general consensus is 'don't waste money on stuff which won't make a difference' - in other words, buy useful stuff like tyres, tape, saddle, or even wheels - but not useless stuff like headset spacers.

Incidentally, carbon forks will not reduce road buzz by a noticable amount. Tyre choice and tyre pressure will make more difference to that.

Good to get some different feed back on the forks. This is why tyres will come first.
In terms of making a difference to the bike, for me it's comfort at the moment,(tape, seat etc) as I just want to get the miles in
I think once comfortable on the bike, performance will come.
Regular 20-30 milers will let you decide what performance upgrades will be required

I have just finished upgrading my TDF. Apart from the parts mentioned above, it now has a full 105 groupset. It goes like the clappers and the shifting is butter smooth.
