I would get a nice finishing kit with yellow/gold annodised bits and pieces and get some new bar tape to match.

Where can I get a finishing kit from

I really don't understand why some people have a prejudice towards this bike. Maybe it's because it was from Halfords, I don't know. I have a Carrera TDF, and to my mind it's a very decent and capable bike for a relatively small price. I've had mine for 6 months and apart from re-wrapping the bars and changing the tyres it's been a great bike so far. No problems what so ever! It's also around 11kg which is not too bad atall. As far as the OP goes you could look into changing the saddle, and as I did and the tyres if you like. The Kenda's that come with it are not great tbh. I got Specialized all weather from Evans for around £27 each and they have been problem free so far.(5months). Of course there are "better" bikes on the market, but if you're commuting or just pleasure riding this bike is ideal IMHO.

Why is it not worth it, what is actually so bad about this bike?

Nothing it so bad about it, but given that it is an entry level bike, if you start upgrading bits and bobs sometimes even small things, you will soon be investing amounts of money similar to the price of the bike for little to no performance benefit. In which case you would have been better buying a higher end bike in the 1st place.

That said, people can and should spend their money on what they want!

I'm after headset spacers, seat clamp headset maybe some yellow bits

Any particular reason you want those things? Yellow bits?

Your best just getting new tyres and using any spare cash to start saving towards a new set of wheels.

Adding so-called bling to a Carrera will just make it look tacky.

I disagree with a lot of the comments here...........

buying quality components, say Campagnola as a example is a good investment, just bin or sell your cheap components or run them into the ground

Though just because it's carbon don't mean its quality

Think long term and buy quality and it may just last a lifetime

Also buying classic quality components is a good investment as you can sell and more or less get your money back should you wish to sell

You disagree with a lot of comments, but then give a response full of irrelevant gibberish?

I'm not sure anyone would suggest that buying good quality components is an investment in anything other than riding, well certainly not financially.

I seriously doubt you can sell them for pretty much what you paid for them, otherwise everyone would be doing it.

Super Record EPS everyone?

The reason I changed the tyres was because I had two punctures quite quickly not long after I bought the thing. And, as I said I've had no probs with the Specialized ones up to now, and I ride every day in all weathers. To be fair the tyres I bought were a bit expensive, but according to Evans these ones offered good all round performance with puncture protection. And so far so good. I've been looking at a new saddle for a while now, but I can't decide which to buy for comfort or price. The stock saddle isn't really uncomfortable for me, I just don't like the way it looks. But I may just keep it as it isn't causing me any problem. With the saddle being one of the most important parts of the ride...."if it ain't broke, don't fix it" sort of thing y'know.

I was going to say..IS there a prejudice ?...but im sure the negatively percieved comments on earlier posts weren't intended in a derogatory way, just different strokes n all that.
Agree with your comment re it being a capable bike. I had a budget Raleigh Chimera...but that bike never let me down, wasn't a lot slower than my far more expensive bikes..bloomin good value for the money. Im sure the tdf is the same.

It is a bike for around £300'ish, so you do get what you pay for. But as I've said mine has been excellent so far. I can't honestly fault it in any way for commuting or pleasure riding so to speak. Racing and the like....that's a different matter. I cannot comment on that as I have never raced.
