03/03/2021 bought a pair of Goodyear 225/65 R17 (102) H EFFICIENTGRIP SUV £162.68 fitted, they went on the back, getting ready for a pair on the front, same company, same tyres £258.78, 60% increase in price in 2 years

I always liked the efficient grips, a nice mid range tyre. Tbf, £80 each in 2021 must have been a good price, I think the last ones I brought were 16 inches, cost me £100 ea in maybe 2019

Just looked at the invoice again & there was a £30 offer on them, so should have been £192, but even so £192 to £258 is a bit steep. Our local Mr Tyre can do a pair for £238 so asked them to get a pair in.

It was picked up yesterday & taken for it's MOT it passed with advisories on front pads getting a bit thin & the tyres under 3mm, not bad for a 16 year old car with 147K on it.

I have a feeling the Aygo is about to rinse me for a few quid. The airbag light popped up in November when we were on a pot holed farm track. I I popped the passenger air bag connector off and on and all seemed OK until just about a week ago. Then it came on at random. Managed to clear it (using a ignition sequence) but it's come back, then went off , back on another day and repeat. I've contact cleaned the side airbag connectors under the seat and the passenger air bag connector.

Now it could possibly be the steering wheel connection (clock spring). Unfortunately my ODBII reader isn't connecting to the Aygo (works in mine) so I'll have to see if my son can get a code with his. If not it's off to the garage !

Apparently the clock springs do fail.

Can you get in to see if it’s gummed up causing a poor connection?

A chilly hour spent securing the rear mud flaps on the V70R, been on the list for a while. Previous owner must have found a few kerbs and they were flapping about. Old rivets drilled out and new ones fitted, job done. Whilst under there I noted the boot on one of the Nivomat self levelling shocks was split, new ones ordered as I don't want to be replacing the shocks at £450 each....

Checked all the obvious ones. Passenger connection, and both side air bags (under seat) and also a connector in the footwell (contact cleaner used on them all). There is a good chance it's the clock spring in the steering wheel, but it's needs diagnosing, for which my ODBCII doesn't do.

If it was a Nissan, you can get them to flash the code by a key turn sequence, and to force a system reset and check by the same method - they have loads of system checks built in - I get an issue with the driver's seat airbag on my Nissan - it's right in line to get 'kicked' from kids in the back. There is no option to force a 'check' on Toyota, so it's garage, or a better (workshop) ODBCII device.

Going to drive it for a couple of weeks to see if it clears, if not, drop it in.

I always wondered why they’ve used rivets as they’re not exactly service friendly.🙄

Argh, checking my car over today, and started it up as it's not moved in weeks, the wipers aren't working properly. Single wipe stopped as soon as you let go of the stalk, then normal wipe wouldn't stop.

Cleaned the stalk electronics, all fine. Google suggested the motor park switch was at fault. Its part of the motor. By chance I had a spare assembly as one of the clips had broken a few years back so I had to buy a whole unit. Swapped it out and all working again. The MOT is in a week.

It looks the biz!
Nivomats are a scary price!🤪
What is your real world mpg in eco mode for town driving? Does it yet qualify for classic insurance yet…?

Well the trip computer says 22mpg.... Fill to fill is about the same. In fairness it does 35mpg on a run. Only do 2k a year so it doesn't really matter. Classic insurance is normally 30 years, so not yet, though the 240 estate will do this year.

My car flew through the MOT last week. Booked the Aygo in for 14th Feb to check air bag - mentioned it to the guy doing the MOT's and he said 'I just finished your MOT, jumped in the car and the airbag light went on, I cleared it and it came back'. I said, 'It will be the driver's seat'. Popped home, unzipped seat back, unclipped airbag connector, cleaned contacts, plugged in diagnostics, cleared code, and voila, all gone'.

I've still been doing checks on the Aygo. Pulled the connections to the air bag control module, cleaned re-assembled. Light went out again, but came back after a couple of drives. Didn't think more about it, as my reader has been refusing to connect. Ran a couple of questions past the Toyota forum, and one suggested pulling the connectors on the module and re-scanning. I'd not re-scanned. Bingo, connected last night and pulled the code. "Steering Squib/clockring'. Sorted. Used part ordered (30 day guarantee) and should be here tomorrow.

Re-scanned again last night, "nah, I'm not talking to you". If the replacement part works, I'll cancel the garage visit.
