Canyon supply situation?

Around the turn of the year there were a lot of disgruntled Canyon customers posting online about long delays to their orders, so much so that the company issued apologies and promised to put the situation right quickly.

Does anyone have any first hand experience to confirm if the situation has actually improved yet, or is it still the case that their delivery estimates are pure fantasy?

I really like the look of this Canyon aeroad model and could live with the current estimated date of late June, but if that is likely to turn into something nearer Christmas then I'd look elsewhere.

I got my 29er 2 weeks after ordering, that was in March.

Unless the inflite I ordered on 11th April is shipped tomorrow that will be the second shipping week missed. First was 25th to 29th April, then week starting 16th May.
It's a shame as on paper it is a really nice bike, but you can't cycle a picture on a website ;-)
I was well aware of the previous Canyon problems so can't say this is a surprise. It would help if a) they were realistic about dispatch dates - if it's going to be 8 weeks just say so at the start, and b) Canyon contacted customers at the end of a failed dispatch week to apologise and give you a another date rather than wait for you to contact them.

I have a 2015 Aeroad SLX 9.0 SL and it is very, very lovely bike, but the ordering and delivery were not without their problems and I got away lightly compared to some. My experience is that the UK office is sympathetic but largely powerless, while the main operation in Germany is slightly chaotic and ruled by a crazy email-bot. If you're willing to play delivery-date bingo they're good value but I'd avoid if you need the bike reasonably quickly or just have a low threshold to being buggered about.

Personally I won't go back to Canyon. Their supply issues are just one (albeit a big one) of their long line of screw ups. I would be worried that like last time anybody who suffers warranty issues would not get screwed over. I know of people who were waiting 6 months to get a frame replaced under warranty.

As I said at the time, I can forgive a company for screwing up, but I cannot forgive a company for dealing with their screw up in such an underhand and deceitful manner.

The problem is - their bikes look and perform amazingly.

Good point. I must admit the warranty/crash replacement does worry me.

I emailed about my order and my estimated dispatch is now week starting 30 May. They have knocked the cost of postage and the bike box off, about £47 as a gesture of good will.
I think I will cancel though and look elsewhere. As pointed out above, it's a shame as the bike looked lovely.

At this stage of the year, I'd make sure you can get an alternative before you cancel. Some of the popular options seem to be in limited supply.
SWMBO has an Endurace on order with delivery scheduled for late June. Hopefully it will be ready around then, if not it will be an order to Rose or Planet X

The joy of buying a new bike just ended up with frustration with Canyon so have cancelled my order. Am off to check out a Norco Search in Evans in town though :-)

Rather than take this thread too far off topic I will start a new thread on what I'm looking for.
So far as Canyon are concerned it's really frustrating because as others have said, the bikes are lovely - if you can get one! :@

Totally off topic- Rather than start another "what should I buy" thread I've dived in and bought an Avanti corsa er2 from wiggle. Spec looks very good and I've been pleased with the Avanti cadent I've owned for the last 3 years.
I was looking to keep the cadent as my road bike and get a fatter tyred cyclocross/gravel bike. To be honest 90% if the time I will be on roads with only 10% on rough tarmac/gravel which I think 28mm tyres will cope with fine.

I can whole heatedly recommend Rose both as a company and their products.
I'm so glad I went for one now over a Canyon which my other consideration was. Finish is excellent and rare, very rare. Bike came on time and they had no problems in switching saddles, stem etc after.

What really sold it to me was the fact I could pick every component from chainset, crank length to bar tape and everything else. IMO looking at the bigger picture it's strange that with 99% of bikes you can't choose anything other than what your given meaning in most cases more expense after buying the bike.

Saying this, mainstream brands with a 30% discount pretty much puts you in the same ball park as my Rose so there's plenty of options out there as it's usually possible to find this kind of discount but maybe not this time of year.
