Same here, Tektro's on a CAADX and it's a constant faff as I'm never happy with them. In an ideal world I'd get a CAADX with discs but budgetary constraints won't allow that so...

Then if the same rims I have then the rims will be the problem more than the brakes , Jalco Maddux drx 6000 rims ?

If stopping power is your problem get some of these TRP TRP.jpg they are scary as hell if not treated gently

I think mine are called Maddux CX 2.0 but they're probably the same.

If they are the same rims the braking surface is quite poor and the join was not level on mine , bits of metal end up in the pads making braking worse , the rims start going concave very quickly and because when Canti brakes wear the pads end up lower on the rim you have to adjust the brake pads every other run to keep the pads on the same bit of braking surface.
BTW I think Maddux 2.0 are for disk brakes so you probably have the DRX6000s .

Cheers Eddy. As a little aside, I borrowed a pair of Fulcrum racing 7 LG CX wheels for a ride this morning and it appears they have a better braking surface. Still far from disc or calipers, but better. As the back wheel is starting to show signs of dying and they're a reasonable ~£125 for a pair, I may well invest in a set.

I have cantis on my tourer and they are fantastic - even when loaded up I don't feel short of stopping power if I need it. They're definitely stronger than most caliper brakes I've used.

On the flip side, they are a bit of a b*gger to set up perfectly... I have tried several times to tweak them (and also the vee brakes on my wife's bike), but no amount of patience seems to yield improvement. If the new rims don't yield the hoped-for improvement in braking performance, maybe it's worth a trip to the LBS to see if they can work their magic on the cantis?

Not any of the LBS' round here.... As it happens I came across an article about Canti setup and compression-less cable housing, it's supposed to be a cheap(ish) way of improving braking performance. Wheels on order, so I'll get those on, get the brake track 'seasoned' and see what's what.

As an update to this, I finally got round to ordering a new set of brake cables and outers (Jagwire compression-less) and fitted them today. More than pleasantly surprised by the improvement it's made .

My avid ultimates are brilliant. Really.

Pricey and a different feel to discs but they're very very powerful.
Hey @dan_bo any chance of a pic of your set up. The Avid ultimates I've got are terrible, much worse than the oryx on my tourer, even putting cool stops on hasn't made much difference. I bought them because of their reputation as being good brakes, but I'm dissapointed.
It's probably my set up, but I can't see how I can get mine any better. I don't have any bikes with V's and I've done about 30 miles on a disc braked mountain bike so it's not that I've been spoiled by other brakes.

How much does it cost to Oldham?

No problem- Hope that helps!

EDIT: straddle could be a little lower but they still feel Bloody good.

Just a thought jazzcat, you can set shorty ultimate up with wide or narrow profile. Wide for mud clearance but narrow profile gives better stopping power (20 percent better I think). Mine are set up narrow and are very strong.

Yes, I'm on the narrow profile set up.
105s-5600 series. What rims are you running?
I'm using exal LX17 rims. I'm also using tektro levers. I must measure the distance of the cable to pivot and compare with the shimano levers on my tourer to see if that's the issue. Thanks for your input chaps!
