It is when I want to wind my father in law up.
They always seem to have lost one glove. Golf fields must be littered with them.

No buts, just showing that a canoe and kayak can appear very similar.
I was walking along the banks of the Leeds Liverpool canal yesterday when i saw a canoe on the water. The bloke wasn't going too fast just tootling along seeming to enjoy himself. The last time i was in a canoe was about 40 years ago when we used to make them at secondary school from fibreglass, then sail them on the canal next to the school. Have any of you owned a canoe or used one regularly? I'm tempted to buy one but i don't know about the rules and regulations. Could i sail it on the canal without anyone questioning it and could i sail it on the local reservoir. If so would i need a license?
Unfortunately, I have to disagree. In some instances, a kayak and canoe, on face value, are virtually identical. Seating and paddle being the only differences e. g. K1 (kayak) slalom and C1 (canoe) slalom (see pic I posted earlier). Both very similar to the untrained eye.No they can't, a canoe and a kayak are completely different craft designed for different jobs.
Canoes are designed for competition and to be easily manoeuvred.
Canadian canoes are designed for stability, load carrying and shallow water.
Kayaks are designed for speed and long distance travel at sea. The kayak was the secret weapon that allowed the Inuit to live successfully in Arctic waters and it was failure to embrace Inuit technology that caused the Vikings to fail to colonise Greenland.
Funnily enough I'm just contemplating starting some canoeing myself. Haven't been in one for around 25 years TBH, so I'm very much planning to go to a local club HERE.I think they'd allow canoes but i reckon the fees would be quite high.
I saw some guys doing this in Northumberland when we up there in May, and that's what whetted my appetite to have a dabble, watch this spaceView attachment 88683
Sea kayaking, my other great love. Here's a photo from a four day trip around Rassay and Rona I did a couple of years back.
