Same could be said here for a pair of bib shorts, they'll not even be waterproof or windproof (probably best not for round the butt area) and they are on special offer...reduced from £309.99.............:scratch:no wonder they have got plenty left in all sizes.....

They also have these at a significant reduction and in all sizes. Does it mean these were way over priced to start too then?

I suspect it's more down to buying in bulk to get the price down. The sane would go for the Assos.

It doesn't make you faster.
I actually disagree.

I find having the right gear on, regardless of cost, makes me ride better. Uncomfortable shorts, jerseys with sleeves that are too short, fleeces that don't breath...and waterproof jackets that just arent...all make the ride less comfortable, less enjoyable...and for me, slowe
r.

Add clicks, creaks and all manner of mechanical stuff.

Been looking at these castelli jackets for two years since I rode in Scotland in foul weather, got soaked, cold and pretty unhappy whilst all the while a mate had one of these on and was dry...not even an internal build up of moisture.

I could spend £100 taking g the family out for a meal at a relatively cheap restaurant, after all.

That said, I still haven't bought one!

I wonder if at that price it is truly waterproof & breathable? Nice looking jacket, but too expensive for a Yorkshireman  Sometimes it is worth paying a little more for the quality of more expensive brands. I have a few bib shorts & jerseys that are RRP over £100, but bought on offer always 50% or more off. The difference in quality between them & Aldi/Lidl gear is really noticeable, but worth £100+ I'm not convinced

If anyone thinks that Rapha repairs are free then they are off their trolley.

Same as DFS sofa purchasers who are not getting really getting free credit with their 0% deals.

No, I would happily pay 70 quid for a good pair of bib shorts, would you pay £250+ for the same item, I wouldn't, I can afford to but I think for said item they are taking the piss because of the name at the end of the day they are only a name in cycling (and only known in that) not like a major worldwide designer that are common to everyone.
Look at things that what they are, if you get a bespoke item, ok fair enough, but a pair of bib shorts are not really justifying Savile row prices....:cuppa:

That's a different argument to above. You said they only have them discounted as they had loads of stock in every size and eluded to this being because they were over priced and had not sold (m)any. My reply was pointing out that they also had more affordable examples under heftier discount with stick in every size too. Hence disproving this argument.

Your new argument doesn't hold water either. Why can't a brand be a premium brand when it only exists in one area, such as Cycling in this example?

When did you last see Porsche toilet rolls, Pirelli cider, Apple drills, Pizza Express toys...

Not talking about the jacket specifically but I'm prepared to pay more for something that I perceive as being better, offering some advantage over something cheaper. I would buy Ortlieb panniers over Aldi ones any day (well I did buy a pair to use to go to the allotment but the clips on the pannier broke after about 2 uses whereas the Ortliebs are still in use after 7 years). However it's not about the label, as I happily own several pairs of Aldi gloves and my Aldi winter jacket will soon be making its annual winter appearance, as for me they work, and shop in their quite regularly.
