Aside from the issue of buying a bike on C2W to not C2W I can only presume your employer has a credit license for you to be lokking at bike far in excess of £1k.
Easy enough to find a LBS willing to take some extra cash  . I just questioned the fact you could be a groupset or should I say a complete bike on C2W .

I can't see the problem, my employer shouldn't offer the scheme for homeworkers if it's against the rules.

With the obesity crisis in this country you would have thought the government and employers would be happy that you can purchase a bike or equipment to enable to you cycle using the scheme. It improves the physical and mental heath of employees thus long term saving my company & the NHS money in the process. But obviously 'some people' seem to have a problem with it.

Instead of riding the bike to work I could ride before or after work, what is the difference? I'm still riding to work.

I use the money in line with the rules, without the scheme I certainly wouldn't cycle as much as I do so why the beef? If you don't have any advice with regards to the question I asked initially how about winding your necks in eh?

Sounds a lot like MPs and their expenses...

EDIT - I should also confess that I got some pedals on the last C2W scheme we did. Some Garmin Vector pedals. They do make it to work sometime, but only if I'm going out for a ride at lunchtime!

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Indeed. At least @cyberknight could ride the C2W bike to work if required/desired
It could be ridden to work but would look funny with rack and panniers  , guessitmated my luggage at about 5 kg easily i like to travel with the kitchen sink .

The problem is that the rules (as published by the Government) do not prohibit homeworkers from using the scheme. In fact, the opposite:

The HMRC Employment Income Manual chapters that deal with C2W aren't that helpful either as it seems to suggest that excluding those who cannot opt to commute by cycle (e.g. homeworkers) would prevent the exemption from applying:

Although this is badged as 'Cycle to Work' and is nominally about reducing environmental pollution, it appears that there is a tacit acknowledgement that not everyone will (or will be able to) take advantage on the basis of commuting but that it's better to get people on to bikes anyway...

Thanks for that, it might get a couple of people off my back :okay:

Maybe, maybe not

I have a problem with the whole principle of C2W where I, as a higher band tax payer, have the potential to save more with the scheme than a much lower paid individual for whom the expense of a bike is likely to be more of a burden.

Getting back on topic. Why the fondness for Decathlon bikes? I got a Bianchi with Di2 for not a significant amount more that your B'Twin option. That was from a retailer who takes part in C2W as that's where I got my C2W bike from several years ago.

But note from the official guidance

T qualify for the tax benefit :

 Employees use the equipment mainly for qualifying journeys;
i.e. for journeys made between the employee’s home and workplace, or part of
those journeys (for example, to the station), or for journeys between one
workplace and another.

I dunno really. Had 4 B’twins now and rated them all. Decent spec for the price, now bad looking, great aftercare, not many B’twin Bikes about where I live etc...

Our C2W rules state this to be minimum of 50% of the total usage that the bike gets.

Some people need to give their head a wobble.......the amount of tax relief given to rich and famous, big business and MPs. Your scoffing at a guy whos getting a small amount of tax relief on c2w scheme.

So you can scoff some more.......i was getting a mountain bike for winter training. But instead im choosing between sram etap and zipp 302s instead. Why?? Take advantage of the scheme while we still can and hmrc allow you to do so.

Thank you

Ps i do c2w but not on the bike im upgrading
