THE RAINBOW BRIDGE POEM

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

((Cubist and Mrs C )) So sorry to hear about Buster, it sounds as if he had a long and happy life.

We had to help my 19 year old cat take his final journey recently so I do understand how you feel

Really sorry to hear that, Cubist. I know how I felt back in April when I had to say goodbye to my 19yr-old cat - I was devastated, so I understand exactly how you feel. Hang on to the fact that you all had a great life together, and you let him go without suffering.

What a lovely-looking dog! Wish I'd met him.

You can tell by looking at him that he had a great life. What more can any of us ask?

Very sorry for your loss.

Very sad. It's a comfort to think what a great life you gave him though, isn't it? We got our cat as an abandoned little thing (someone had left it and its brothers and sisters in a carrier bag in the park, can you believe). It's had a life of relative luxury with us, growing up with our kids for 16 years, and we often think how different it could have been had someone not found that bag and handed them in to the RSPCA.

Very sad news. Losing a long term pet is very upsetting. 2 years in April for my Petra and still makes me choke when I think of the day she was put down. Many sympathies.
