Buster, my 16 year old terrier cross had to be put to sleep this evening. We found him 15 years ago in a thunderstorm, a bedraggled waif who was treated to a marvellous life. He loved the old dog we had in those days and used to plague her like mad! He was Mrs Cube's inseperable companion though really, and over the years has been a real joy. He has not been in very good health recently, and yesterday took a huge turn for the worse. Today the vet said his kidneys had failed and so it was the inevitable decision. He went very quickly and peacefully, and I have been crying like a baby for the last hour!

Oh, he's lovely. May he run for ever in the Elysian Fields, chasing sticks and rolling in dreadful stuff.

My standard consolation is that you've been able to give him a peaceful end and a release from illness, something denied to humans. Here, have a tissue.
