Nice try but I doubt if they would wear it!
Ok, what about the pot hole that couldn't be seen because they didn't repair the road surface before top dressing and put a dent in my rim (told you am bad news with wheel rims)

It is amazing what effect rough surfaces can have on vehicles. The feeling you get from riding on a smooth piece of tarmac is transmitted through a vehicle in the same way, less effort is required to maintain the same speed.
As you rightly said , rolling resistance can sap speed and energy, I once switched tyres from knobly to smooth and saved 10 minutes over a distance of 12 miles.
Mind you I wasn't used to cycling and had to stop several times to look at the scenery.

It's only my 2p having riden very little in the way of half decent wheels but....

I've done 350 miles on my Campy Khamsins (Fulcrum 7 clone), weigh 106kg (down from 112 in the four weeks I've owned them) and as a result of some of our group being less than fastidious about signalling hazards, hit more than a few Fen pot holes - They're 200% worse than others as scientifically verified by anecdotal evidence.

No matter, They're still running absolutely true. I'm impressed, because after hitting one particular chasm, my one remaining testicle wasn't for a couple of days*. I'm sure there's lighter, more responsive, etc wheels out there and I cannot yet comment on wet weather durability, but if they survive the sort of impacts my capacious butt imparts, they ain't bad.

* I checked, but please don't ask....
