The Triban's are a good starting bike as others have stated, but both my husband and I have found that if you actually use the bike a lot, you wear parts out far faster on a Triban than you do on another bike. So soon there will be a Red T3 going up for sale in the for sale section (once I have stripped it and cleaned it and replaced chain, cassette and chainset ) My Fuji has done the same distance as I did on my T3 and is still on the original parts. The T3 parts wore out much more quickly and were on their 3rd or 4th cassette & chain by the time I replaced the bike.
It really depends on how into cycling you are/going to get and how much you want to spend. Twice the price of a T3 will get you something that will last much longer and need less maintenance in my experience.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
You can get cheap as chips btwins and high spec models , all offer excellent value and high spec on a like for like basis against main brands , i would place them on par with ribble/planet x .

I'd place them well above that. I've had some bikes which you could add a zero or two to, that have not earned the right to take on the 'humble' Btwin. Although I admit you need to know your onions to extract the full potential.

The btwin alur is on sale at the min with a 105 shimano group set? I've heard good things about it. Also been completely dropped by a guy riding one (must have been the bike).

If you want that bike, you should be quick, been in and out of stock, older model, now replaced...although online they only have the XS so unless you are on the small size... (local stores may vary but it's been in the sale for 4 weeks and it says v limited stock so if you are an average size I'd be surprised if any stores have it)

And it's a boring looking thing however cheap it is ;)
