I know this is a long shot, but can you raid your dad's (or your own!) record collection and see if anyone has a copy of a compilation Album from the 60's called Brum Beat? Am willing to pay a reasonable cost for it, depending on the condition.

The reason for this is, my dad was in a band called The Senators when he was young and he played with John Bonham from Led Zeppelin. We have been researching the band and what we thought was just a hobby to him turned out to be a band that was taken very seriously on the scene at the time, and they made a record called She's a Mod. The record has since been covered by other bands and made more famous but according to reviews of the band "The Senators unknowingly made rock music history when they recorded a song called "She's a Mod" ... bla bla bla" All references to other bands covering the song credit the original recording back to my dad and his band. Furthermore, the band is now more famous because of the fact that it was John Bonham's first band that he played with.

So turns out my dad was a cool dood rockin the scene when he met my mum (and my mum was a darling too) and his name is all over t'internet! Even youtube! (although the video footage isn't of his band, the original recording has been laid over the video. Who'd have thought it eh?

Anyway, really want to get hold of a copy of this album (i've put my name down a trading site for it but they haven't had a copy for 2 years) to give it to him as a present. We've managed to track down one of the surviving members who says he's in touch with the others and we're planning a "this is your life" type of reunion for his 70th Birthday in 2012, and i know he's got memorabilia of the band so he may have the songs to play at the reunion but i'd really like to get this for my dad.

I'm like an original rock chick or something! Stand aside Kelly Osbourne!!! (actually my dad is actually my step dad... can you imagine if my mum had fallen for John Bonham instead! I REALLY WOULD BE A ROCK CHICK LOL)

my mum has just pointed out to me that if she'd married John Bonham instead i'd probably be screwed up over how he died. However, i'd still be rich. damn.

So your Dad knows Mick Kidson, who just so happens to work as an English teacher in an independant school in St Andrews. If you PM me with your contact details I will pass it on to him, if you wish.

doesn't have The Renegades classic take on 13 women on it - I was amazed to find out they were from brum....

actually not sure if this is the right one, still happy searching, nice story too..

No - Buggi wants the one on Dial that 3BM links to.

Actually a minter used to fetch £50 twenty years ago so the $90 price tag is not too bad unless one is a complete VJ and must have a perfect sleeve.

Considering the Bonham connection I wasn't surprised at $90, but some folks can't comprehend that sort of cash for a musty old platter. The only thing to watch out for is the grading, so many sellers these days say mint when it quite clearly isn't - mint, to me, is unplayed. Properly graded, anything less than ex isn't very listenable although you have to make concessions with some rare records if you want them as it could be your only chance.

I'm not sure and i can't ask him because he'll wonder why i'm asking. Can you ask your friend if he knows my dad. His name is Graham Dennis. If so, would love to hear from him, i'll pm you my details.

Gemm have got a copy, lot of money though. Look for long enough and it'll turn up at a better price.

Thank you so much, i've ordered it. I don't think it's overpriced as it's apparently in excellent condition. works out about about £60 or so quid i think, which is what i was expecting to pay.

Buggi, I'll ask around, I have musician friends who know about this sort of stuff... you sure this isn't them?

It's their soundtrack put over the video of the other band that played. my mum's looked at the video and she say's definitely not them, it's Ray Columbus, but definitely my dad's bands version of the song (i've since listened to Ray's version and it is slightly different).

I'm well excited now that i've managed to get that copy. Thanks McGinty!
