think i might get myself booked on a course, bit out of my way(55miles) but sounds good, unless any1 knows of anything like this in the staffordshire area?
I'm sure they'll be something in or around the staffordshire area. I'm originally from Staffs so will ask me brother (who still lives there) to put the feelers out.^_^

Awaiting for local curse to be confirmed near me, Essex. Learnt a little bit rebuilding the bike I saved from the skip, but still got to be worth attending a professional course
I agree, once you"ve been shown how to do stuff it's much easier. Better than reading from a book for sure. Good luck with your course and hope you find one that meets your needs.

I did a course with http://www.cycletrainingwales.org.uk/ on Saturday. A full day for £65, it provided all of the basics.

It was enjoyable and I gave the bike a service yesterday with no problems. I'll soon make my £65 back by not giving it to a bike shop.

I agree that none of it was rocket science but I was still getting some of it wrong and not even trying gear or brake adjustment.
It's certainly satisfying working on your own bike and like you say you'll soon recoup the costs of the initial outlay. Enjoy your maintenance^_^
