So I'm a huge noob in the world of cycling, and following everybodys recommendation, I practiced taking off the wheel and replacing the inner tube so it should make road repairs quicker.

That all went well, however, my brakes are permanently stuck on. I did unclip the brakes from the little bracket they sit on to allow me to get the wheel off, but when I went to clip them back on they seemed a lot stiffer to clip together and as a result my brakes are stuck on. I don't believe I touched any of the brake cables, I did slightly loosen one caliper and reposition it as it was lop sided...but both calipers are touching the wheel suggesting the cable is too tight somewhere.

And problem number 2...there's also a rubbing sound coming from the cassette, but I can't see anything rubbing. I've obviously messed up somewhere.

I don't know what to check or do next so will appreciate any expert input!

Thanks!

V Brakes at a guess. Check the noodle (the metal pipe) is properly seated first.

Check the entire cable run, chances are one of them (most likely the one by the handlebars) isn't seated properly.

I did this. Then meddled with the brakes.
Then got someone who knew what they were doing to fix it for me:blush:
Turns out the wheel wasn't where it should've been.
Its very unlikely your brakes have moved in the process, more likely the wheel isn't in. Take it off and try again.

Assuming everything was working fine beforehand, then you've missed something obvious. Go back and repeat the process.

Thanks to all! Something fairly obvious indeed...

This was it. I hadn't touched the front of the bike as I was working on the rear wheel but somehow I managed to tangle up one of the cables by the handlebars!
