Hi
We are new to cycling and want to get a bike each just to keep fit and enjoy the Cheshire countryside.
We want to go and try out some bikes but would like to know a bit about them so we dont arrive at the shop totally ignorant

My partner is male and 6ft 6 inches, what size frame should he go for please?

I am 4ft 11 inches female and really dont want to have to buy a little girls bike if I can help it

We are thinking of buying mountain bikes

Thanks, Nadeen

Can you explain in simple terms, how the rider's "reach" is measured.

If I measure my height, how do I know if my arms are in proportion to my height. Or does the fact that, as the the Evans link, there are perhaps three frame sizes to each "height" allow for different lengths of arms?

A very rough indication for reach is to place your elbow against the tip of the saddle, your wrist should meet the bars.If however you are built like a primate(i'm 5'6'' 29'' leg with the arm reach of a orangutan) all measurements go out the window!

I will try that. I have a very big bicycle tucked away at the back of the garage. I think it may be too big for me, but I am trying to find out. It is a Coventry Eagle, so it could go to Antiques Roadshow. ;)

The distance from my elbow to my wrist is less than 11 inches.
