I don't know if it is common practice but my niece's boyfriend got an email from the bike recycling charity shop that he donated a bike to. They thanked him for the donation and said that they had sold it on (after fettling) for £140 profit.
That’s a nice touch. I don’t think we do that
That did flit through my mind but he seemed pleased that it had helped the charity.Could be a double edged sword, some people will feel bitter about how much the charity "made" from them.

Some of the charity shops where I'm signed up as a "gift aider" send an e-mail to say how much they've made from my donation and hence how much tax they've reclaimed. I'm frequently amazed at how much they manage to sell my junk for.
