Can anyone suggest a bike rack for a Peugeot 206. A lot of the ones ive seen are stating I need to add a light board which I dont want to do so any advise would be excellent.

Joe, have you considered roof rails and roof mount carriers? OK, hits fuel consumption, and mean you lift the bike up onto the carrier, but while the outlay may seem more than a rear carrier you don't have to faff around with light board etc, which will add maybe £40 to 60 onto the cost.

Good roof carriers are actually the Halfords twin pack, which are just a Thule design from a couple of years ago at a much cheaper price!

I have thought about roof bars but the price did put me off slightly. Think i'll take a trip to halfors and have a look at this pack youve mentioned.

Thanks for your help!

I wish i had bought the roof bars.

I always stuggle putting the cycle carrier on and during the drive i always think its about to fall off the back.

Best thing I ever did with my car was to have a towbar mount fitted when I got the car, as tow-bar mounted bike carriers are the way to go.

When I went shopping for a car, I went on my bike.
I wheeled my bike into Bristol St Motors Ford to the amazement of the salesman.
He was just about to say something like "You can't bring that in here" when I interjected by saying "If you can get this in the back of that Focus, I'll buy one".

He had the seats configured and the bike was in the load space quick as wink.

I can get two bikes ( seperated by a blanket ) in the back of the Focus without removing wheels off the bikes.

Its an expensive portable bike shed, but it gets the GF and I to the seaside as well as carrying my bike to and from AUK events.

If any part of your bike will cover the rear light clusters or numberplate (even if you think they are still visible through the spokes) I'm afraid you must use a light board.

If you don't, you have a fair chance of being stopped; and a ticket or penalty points.
