My partner has one of those, and I ride it too sometimes - I think it's a good bike.

Do you enjoy riding it? That's all that's important. A good service/adjust/fettle, new chain, new cassette, new tyres could give it a new lease of life for far less than the cost of a new bike

You and I both know that's *not* all that's important ;)

But yes Kona Jake's a good bike, if OP doesn't like it I'll be happy to, ah, look after it for them

Yes it is  for the purpose of wondering nothing else ultimately matters

If he wants to know for a specific reason, then that needs to be elucidated. Eg he's turning pro and doing the tdf next year. There may be a better bike for marginal gains say. Or he's starting bmxing or extreme MTBing

If you smile when you ride then who cares what you're riding?

So Kona are good, how would upgrading the tyres help, they seem OK, go round and round, might give it a new lease of life, thoughts

You might find it rolls better on roads if it has fat knobbly tyres at the moment and you switch to something thinner and slicker

You asked if its good, how do you define good? It is good but there could be better or different depending on who you are seeking

Just a general confidence thing, as I get fitter I will ask more of the bike, its a cyclecross bike, not sure what that means ??

Means you can ride it over rougher stuff than a pure road bike. Fatter tyres, higher bottom bracket, different gearing

If you want to ask more if the bike, try CX racing when Autumn and winter come. There's a part of the forum dedicated to CX

Of course, there's also nothing to stop you joining a road club with that bike either, although thinner tyres might help
