thanks, i think to be safe i will go for the larger one, i know its potentially less secure but the extra reach outweights the potential downside me thinks, thanks everyone for posting :smile:

I like this thread. Some really good and informative suggestions. I don't need one but I'm now thinking of going out and buying one of these D locks too ! When the wife does this :rolleyes: i'll point her in the direction of you guys....

thanks guys, just checked amazon and they have the abus granite plus for £42, seems cheap compared to other sites that have checked.

that worth getting? My bike is used for commuting so generally will be secure either end(in a garage at home) and in the office at work, but when i start riding at the weekends its going to be out in the wild wild west :smile:

For weekend rides and cafe stops,you don't need a D LOCK,as the bike should be in view all the time. Just a small cable lock will suffice

yea, my plan is to put the d lock in my rucksack (as one of the other posted suggested), and to leave the cable lock permanently attached to the bike.
