It's not the salt, it's the high alkalinity of the dishwash detergent for dissolving grease. It can ruin the finish by pitting aluminium components - don't ask me how I know this! Great for cleaning oil-contaminated disc brake pads though.

I'm relatively new to this cycling lark but have already been officially classed by my (mainly non-bike) friends as a 'Bike Geek'
This has come about after a recent girlie pub lunch....An all-male group of riders passed the pub garden that we were sitting in & I automatically commented on the bikes (A Trek Madone no less!) only to be met with grim faces announcing that ' Its a very sad day when you start raving about the bikes instead of the men riding them!!'

I did exactly the same thing this weekend (except it was a Colnago) and was met with the same response from my girlie mates!

My glorious Cervelo R3 has it's own bedroom and is tucked up under a fluffy sheet as we 'speak'.

Good idea using a hair dryer to remove excess water. I'd be lucky to get that one past Mrs515 though.......

I've been accused of being a bike spotter as I tend to count how many other Bromptons I see on my journey and what colour they were etc .......

Aha! I use neither... not that I've used the dishwasher Dear... Spray with bike de-greaser, pop in on a hot cycle with no dishwasher tabs or salt, job done. Admittedly I only do this when punting stuff on eBay.

It's nice to know I'm not the only Geek out there..... except maybe the blow drying thing - which I should add worked extremely well in all the nooks & crannies! My bike is much adored & yes, it lives in the house of course!! 
