I have had numbers of BG fit's and a Retul fit.
Both have virtue, however the quality of the retul fit varies extensively from place to place due to it being a subsidiary/licensed based service and if the fitter is passionate about a service or considers it as being a money making opportunity. But a good retul fit is exceptionally extensive and complete.

BG fit's generally seems to be more consistent across the board as the technicians are continuously trained and re-skilled to be able to offer that service

don't expect miracles from a bike fit. If you are an experienced cyclist and have some common sense you can easily tune the fit yourself just as well, if not better than a bike fitter. All a bike fit will do is put you in a position that someone has decided is optimal for the type of riding you do, and for your body shape - that in no way means that it'll work for you though, although if you have cash to burn then it's probably not a bad place to start from!

Where did you have your bike fit?

I am beginning to wonder whether finding a cycling focused physio might be better...or going back to the knee surgeon

IMO surgery should always be the very last option, when all else has failed.

Indeed. However, with the previous meniscus tear it got worse during the 5 months of conservative physio. I have no mechanical issues currently, hence not doing anything but the pain is getting worse and more frequent.

This is why I want to see a trained medical professional, not someone who has done a short course on bike fitting.

I am not getting positive vibes on the bike fitting front on this thread.

Im not dismissing bike fits but myself I think you need to use and tweak the bike to what you like . If you don't like something or feel something needs a bit here and there then move it and ride it for a bit and so on . I have been put on the turbo at my LBS to check I hadn't made any silly mistakes but everything was fine . I will probably ask them to put me on it with the TCR at some point just to check I have things right but until I have stopped messing with things theres no point as I may move things / add new kit .
I watched a clip of one pro rider that said his team hated him as he kept moving things on the bike . Not that im a pro

Thing is ultimately I am not confident that any set up I achieve will be correct even if broadly comfortable.

Until the autumn, I had no knee issues and it had been relatively calm for over a year. Then it started to play up. Sore, Stiff, a lack of fluidity cycling and walking and tight feeling. Went back to specialist, had an MRI and an injection to lubricate. Torn meniscus as suspected plus articular cartilage worse

I want the fit from someone who understands the diagnosis, the structures in the knee and the implications of the diagnosis. The elbow history doesn't help either!

If such a person doesn't exist so be it. I'll need to reconsider

Maybe bike shops are the wrong place to look for what you are after ? Maybe a gym will have someone with medical training in that area ? Or a private instructor . I do know a private instructor actually . I will ask the question although her practice may be a little under water right now

Cheers. I know of a physio who works with triathletes. I may see him and get his advice

yep, it does really sound like you should seek a medical stroke physio about techniques rather than hand over hard earned cash for someone to tell you how to set up your bike.
