Here for rides.
For me it is setting up V brakes. Specifically setting up V brakes on classy old steel mtb frames originally designed for canti's. I know it is only 10% bike and 90% me but it makes me want to throw the bike over the fence.

AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGH!

(and adjusting Avid BB5's but i don't have to do that anymore so it doesn't really count)

Re-installing wheels with hub gears. Shi**no particularly. I think wheels should be super easy to fit.

Ditto bikes with chain-cases.

Doing anything at all without a workstand.

Handlebar tape frightens me, probably simply because I've only tried replacing it once. Last time I cheated and got lbs to do it for me - will probably do same again next time it needs doing too.

I'm not mad keen on fettling gear and brake cables either, but have just bought some better cable cutters so am hoping to cure myself of that one.

Oh yeah, I'm with you there.

Utterly hate messing with them on the beater bike.

Had my first attempt at changing derailleur cables the other day.

Never indexed gears before [used to shifters from 30+ years ago] and it did seem like a bit of a black art.

After 3 hours of effort [most of] the gears worked !

Think it confused me that I had 24 gears to get right rather than the 10 I was used to.

Really hope that things improve with practice.

Oh, and fitting Minoura Space Grips. They give me apoplexy.

Cantis - hate them.

Anything with cups, cones and lock nuts - fortunately BBs are easy these days, threadless headsets ditto, and it's fairly easy to avoid traditional hubs too.

Replacing cables on folding bikes. Threading the birdy ones through the frame is annoyingly tricky.

But cantis are easily top of the list.

i cant stand general cleaning , its so boring and mundane but the worst thing bar none is stripping down front shocks total nightmare .

Fitting 'Grab-On' grips to drop bars. Luckily I haven't had to do it for thirty years.

They're quite hard work aren't they - especially if going over cables, which they didn't do thirty years ago.

The ones I fitted still foam in the wet - I may have used a little too much washing up liquid to coax them on.

true that!
The first time i did it, i snapped the damn gear change cable due to putting too much tension on it. Add in disc brakes and it's a different ball game!
