Im looking at a Boardman CX v Specialized Diverge
Just to throw another alternative at you...
How about a Specialized AWOL?
I haven't tried a Diverge to give a direct comparison, but I do have a Secteur which is similar. I would describe the AWOL as "tank-like". With a steel frame and 42mm tyres its really comfortable. It wont be as fast on the road as a Diverge, but will allow larger tyres, even some of the MTB nobblies, if you think you might want to use it on muddy trails or tow-paths.
On the negative side, I did have to get the rear hub replaced (and I suspect the front wont be far off either) I needed them doing quick and got a cheap Deore MTB hub from Halfords and got the LBS to rehub the wheel with stronger spokes - I think it was £80 all in. I could have gone the warranty route but as I say I needed them quick as I had a ride planned.
Although the bikes you are looking at are in the £1000 area, it seems that they can still come with cheap hubs. With your weight and the power you are likely to be putting out I think that it might be wise to budget for either getting the originals re-hubbed or another set of wheels.
