Im looking at a Boardman CX v Specialized Diverge for a suitable commuter. Im 6ft 4in and 25 stone, i'm a weightlifter and am fit & strong.
Are there any other large/heavy riders that use either model...or could suggest better alternatives?

thanks

A lot of companies including Specialized have a rider weight limit for their frames/bikes. You'd want to understand how exceeding this may affect any warranty. At the very least you'll want upgraded handbuilt wheels with more spokes (disc brakes may limit choices a bit)

Weirdly, I was looking at the same bikes for the last few weeks.
I'm 6'2" ex-Rugby wing-forward, about 15 stone that wanted a commuter/trail at weekend bike.
I talked to quite a few LBSs about my size etc and, aside from a Sigma bloke who suggested the Canondale CaddX Sora, they all said I should go for the Diverge. So for the last four days, I've been bombing around on a Sport A1. The Sora gears are meh, but it is a fast bike and very stable. Good fun to throw about as well.

It's done 77 miles straight off with no discernible problems and have fitted rack and mudguards.

Gonna take it back roads and trails round Surrey tomorrow morning if the weather's like today.

The OP is 25 stone not 15 (which is 100kg or less), so certainly different wheels may well be required in due course

I didn't say he shouldn't get a bike but that he might wish to consider implications for any frame warranty if exceeding the max rider weight and also may want stronger wheels

Thanks all for your comments, was looking at cannondale and they seem to be a higher threshold of about 150kgs 330lb which is nearer my weight, Diverge rolls in at about 125kg .......my current Hardrock is 135kg, not had any problems with this at all
obviously the wheels are stronger and larger so i assume that would add to stability etc etc.

Hi,

BJ, 5K is 3.1 miles and about 6:27 per mile for 20min.
In my twenties i wanted to run 5 miles is half an hour,
the best I ever managed was ~ 6:20 a mile for 5 miles.

Compare that to marathon runners who do 26
5 minute miles on the trot for about 2h 10m.

The world record for running 5Km is mind boggling,
12min 37.3 sec, at 12.62min / 3.1 miles its basically
doing 3 4 minute miles on the trot, utterly incredible.
(4m 04s per mile, but then lose the last 0.1 mile.)

"Is a 20 minute 5k run time realistic?"

You tell me, but I suspect its the same as my goal.

rgds, sreten.

Im 6'2" and nearly 18 stnone x rugby player, sadly not all muscle though

I started with a carrera hybrid 5 years ago, went to a carrera vanquish road bike. The difference in comfort is quite big depending on the type of cycling you do, the hybrid tyres make it more comfortable on trails etc. The road bike is great but only really on smooth roads, when your on a bumpy road it takes it out of your arms and backside, ive just fitted 25 tyres from 23 which should help a little.

Anyway i too have gone for a new bike, a boardman cx team get it in Jan, for all these reasons. bigger tyres more robust can ride off road in winter but still quicker than my heavy hybrid

I see you use SKS mudguards for your diverge. Please, tell me how did you mount them. Thanks in advance.
