In my home town of Lincoln Ne, parents at one grade school has formed a "bike bus". One parent leads a group of kids on their bikes and one or more parents follow up for safety. They follow a route just like a regular school bus, to pick up all the riders. Then after school the parents are waiting, and form up the bus and get all the kids home safely. The kid love this, and think it is a good deal.

Some schools, sadly pitifully few, do a similar "walking bus."

Its a great idea. It gets kids into cycling and you find motorists are much more tolerant.

Since you like this idea, you may want to check out Safe Routes To School. This is the national and local organization that supports programs to encourage school children to bike and walk to school.
What you may not be aware is when kids are driven they not only lose an opportunity to improve their fitness leading to better school performance but also all the motorists on the street in such a localized area at the same time creates traffic delays and greater danger to vulnerable road users.
Keep that bike to school program going!
