Hi well its time for an update, i posted a couple of weeks ago requesting help for a 6ft 8 inch 20stone bloke, well here goes got the bike "Goliath" simple reason for the name its massive. well i started very slow and sweaty and well i'm improving what a "BUG" it gets 3 times a week now not very granted 12 miles a trip but to me and my wife a starter.
I love it plain and simple its not the effort it was at the gym we are out and about meeting great people seeing some wonderful sites and enjoying the thrill of cycling. "My very deepest thanks for your help" it has set me on a course i wish i had taken some years earlier, now any of you BIG guys and gals{ no i'm not from Leeds and ex DJ with a cigar} get out there and do it no one laughs no points the finger at the fat guy with the lycra, in fact the oppersite everyone i have met is helpful and only to willing to give advice godd bad you decide

"thanks again to all"

Totally agree with you, a year ago I was the most unfit bloke you could meet I was 5"10 and just under 24st drinking in the region of 30 pints of Stella a week smoking 20 a day.
One day I woke up a decided to buy a bike so went to my local bike shop and brought a Trek 1.1 I could even ride half a mile it killed me, 18 months later I'm regularly riding 60 to 70 miles and down to 12st 6 without a doubt it was the best decision of my life and one that probably saved my life.

Keep going and good luck

Well done mate
I am 59 ,6'3" and was 20 stone ,I drive all day and did no exercise on my day's off (I work 4days on 4 days off 12 hour shifts on a rolling week) so was a reall couch potatoe when not working.I bought a Carrera Subway from halfords about 8 weeks ago and ride around the canals when it's dry and the cycle ways when it's wet on my day's off and I love it.I put a bin liner on under my jumper and coat to make me sweat more to help get my weight down quicker i will stop this practice when I get down to about 17 stone though. I started off doing about 10 mile a session, but now got it up to between 25-27 miles session and it takes me around 2.5 hours but I aye really bothered about the time just love biking.am also thinking of getting a cyclocross bike next year as I have a ambition to ride from Birmingham to Aberwristwyth at some point in the future.

Great stuff!
I'm a larger person (getting thinner!) but I don't care - I love being out on my bike, I dress in what's comfortable (usually lycra) and just go for it.
I'm not in a race so I don't care who passes me (yes, even the 5 yr old on a Batman bike )

From only being able to ride a couple of miles, to now riding 30+ at a time, I am really proud of myself.
You should be too!

Well done mate , lost nearly a stone myself and quite happy with the slow rate the fat is falling off. (5ft"5 and 18st now) .
The feeling of getting out on the bike is great and it gets even better every time you beat any little challenge you set yourself.

I do wear lycra shorts although I still feel like a bellend in them lol So I wear my cotton shorts over the top.

I used to do that but didn't like wearing two layers as it seemed to irritate me.
Now I just wear shorts - sod them, if they don't like it, they don't have to look
