Next Gen by far superior to the original series, Voyager second, DS 9 so so. Movies mostly ok. Original series is brilliant for its day though.

I previously thought that. It's in a sense more serious, the crew are more professional and all the rest, and yet now the years have past, if next gen is on TV when I'm staying in a hotel I'll likely not watch it, yet the original series tends to draw me in, despite being more dated. Voyager I found unwatchable due to awful technobabble instead of decent plotting, DS9 not got into either

Saw a couple of the prequel ones and thought them quite good - captain Archer was it? . Just watched the first episode of the new new one. I won't be watching the second.

Stargate, the film was brilliant idea but so badly done. The series had some very good ones and truly awful ones. Great idea though but could have been much more cerebral I think.

I found it [the series] undemanding fun and again found myself watching it if staying away from home. Not at all up there with the greats like Battlestar or Bab 5 but enjoyable entertainment in a hotel early evening. Unusually both sequels were also fun, particularly Atlantis

I quite like the film and thought it had a real "sense of wonder" achieved only in the very best sci fi, and also a lot of tension and menace when they first went through the gate to the desert planet

See now Battlestar and Bab 5 I never got either. Weird how tastes differ.

By Battlestar I do mean the remake by the way. But hey ho, it'd be dull if we all liked the same thing. My very favourite series was Farscape, but my Mrs thought it dull and cliched so we didn't together get past the first couple of warm up episodes. I got into it having first seen a couple of episodes in the middle and thought "Wow! wtf is this" so bought the box set. I never really got Firefly (cowboys in space) but did watch it all. It suffered by being too slow to bring out the epic back story, and planet-of-the-week was getting a but dull. The back story proper was told in the (quite good) film Serenity

The best ones we've seen recently are Dark Matter (sadly cancelled, but still well worth watching) and Timeless - a time travel one set in the present (so to speak). I also love the Expanse, but Mrs PP got fed up with the mumblecore dialogue and to be fair the mostly unsympathetic characters - still the most amazing looking series eve, and it is well written / ploted/ acted.

And for utter weirdness how about Lexx? A bit like Red Dwarf but a lot more horror (sometimes rather revolting) elements and less funny, not that it takes itself seriously. The main flaw is again unsympathetic characters but it will likely be the oddest thing you've watched and has much to recommend it.
