For the really sticky grot which nothing else will shift there's always WD40 - great for getting tarry oily stuff off bikes, motor bikes and cars.

Baby wipes. They're cheap, quick, easy, and quite good at removing traffic-film and brake dust residue.

Poundland often have a Muc-Off knockoff called No More Dirty Bike - imaginative!
Works quite well - it's one of the 'spray on a wet bike, leave, rinse' sort.

But when it's out of stock I use their concentrated car wash, mix it with water and fill up the "No More Dirty Bike" bottle and use that until they have it back in stock
