I am looking at giving my bike a clean, I'm conscious that it has oil and grease in places that should not be washed out.

Can anyone recommend anything or could I use car wash products?

When i give my bike its biannual wash i just throw some washing up liquid in a bucket of water thats way too hot for my hands and then rinse all the soapy bubbles off. There are products out there that are aimed at the cyclist ( i think "muck off" might be a brand name ) but i've never used it. A good idea to purchase is a set of cleaning brushes which you will find in any bike shop or even some of the bigger supermarkets , i got mine in Asda. The shape of these are designed to get into and between all the hard to reach places. Hope that helps a wee bit. God i've just read this back . I sound like Barry Scott in the Citic Bang adverts..........

haha! TURBO POWER!!!!!!!!!! Yeah I in of the thinking that these products are aimed at novices like me ;) however, you say about washing liquid - we use fairy and its very good at removing grease from plates...? hehe!!!

Asda....selling bike brushes?! Yeah I have little hands but yeah brushes would be a good idea.

Baby wipes! Followed by a spray of GT85 all over (taking care not spray on the rim braking surfaces.) Leave, make a cuppa, come back and wipe over with a microfibre cloth. If the bike needs a really good clean then, as mentioned, don't use washing up liquid as it contains a lot of salt (unless you use Ecover or Surcare or a similar eco-friendly detergent.) Car shampoo is probably best, and cheaper than Muck-Off and the like. Lube chain, pivot points etc. Ready for the next ride!
