Best Mobile Phone Handlebar Mount?

Every £20 I spend on the bike costs us £50.

I buy a new crankset for £20 and she retaliates with a shrub in a tub costing £30.

You're making a fundamental mistake. Probably just inexperience. Never, ever discuss cycling related purchases with a spouse. Serious error.

A good friend of mine was considering a new bike. His wife had agreed the purchase. He happened to let slip how much I'd spent on my new bike. He's not getting a new bike.

So here's a tactic for you. You already own a nice phone which would cost £xxxx to replace. You can buy a very nice Wahoo for £yyyy which is shock proof, withstands being dropped, safer to use, crashes etc. comes with a purpose designed mount etc. and is often replaced free if there's a problem. Why not get one to avoid risking the phone?

An alternative tactic is to say nothing when your wife joins a very expensive leisure club. Mrs P did this.......fair play means I can legitimately spend +/- £1000 pa without guilt or recriminations!

Plants in pots are probably a good deal.

I tried using a holder that held the phone inside a waterproof housing. It gave me problems when the bike was in full sunshine as the phone over heated. I then bought a cheap mount on Ebay, it offers no water protection but was sturdy and cheap. Sturdy enough not to worry the phone would loosen and drop off the bars.
The mount is mostly plastic but seems strong enough.
The exact one doesn't seem available anymore but this is along the same lines.

For the price of a quad lock you'll be a fair way to a Garmin/Wahoo. The Edge Explore has recently been down to £130 - very happy with mine.

My wife has a good idea as her sewing/craft hobby is equally as expensive - £4k sewing machines !

It was all easily blown in the early years of our marriage when I was watching the Le Tour. Question - erm that 'Dura Ace' that's plastered on the pro bikes, that's on yours !

Hmmmmm.......Mrs P does quite a lot of sewing, crochet etc. Her sewing machine is very old. Perhaps I should encourage a new one???? 🤔

I have been there and done this and eventually ordered a edge 530 this weekend (I know Wahoo is what people rate, but I'm so far into the garmin ecosystem that the garmin was the way to go). I did want a quadlock, but they don't support my phone. I used an old S4 for navigation, but the battery just didn't last with screen on all the time, so a dedicated bike computer was the way to go. I did get a mount for the bike (road) which was very good (wrapped round one), but as I say the phone just didn't last (even with a new battery) for more than an hour or 2.

Also I use the aftershox aeropex, great for the stats being shouted at you every 10 mins, and for incoming calls, etc. I don't listen to music/radio unless running, as cycling requires more attention, but have them on, and don't notice their there under me helmet, etc.

Good luck. I know the bike computer is more expensive than a mount, but... In the long term you'll give in (I used to use a phone when started running to track me runs, but got a garmin watch in the end )

Used my edge explore yesterday for the 1st time to follow a course and I'm impressed even proper rerouting,none of the usual route back to where you went wrong no sense.Not tried it's own course creation software yet

I’ve actually gone the other way. I had a Garmin Explore, which was fine but I ended up wondering why I was taking my phone and a cycling computer with me, when the phone Strava app met my simple needs. I’m sure I would feel differently if I was interested in other metrics like cadence, for example.

When all day rides become possible again I’ll carry a back-up battery pack for the phone, but would probably have done that even with a dedicated unit, since having the phone available is pretty useful.

Yeah each to their own, but I'd be more lost if my phone broke (falling off, or issue with bike), than a bike computer (but would be annoyed too), and the screen just works better on a dedicated device. Each to their own

My wife sent me to pickup a 1960s sewing machine from the other end of the country. She wouldn't part with it for love nor money. I think it's one of those things where new is rarely better than old.

Yes, my wife is the same in fact. She has a machine she inherited from her mother. It must be 50+ years old and still works very well. She did get a more modern machine secondhand from a friend as this machine does things the older one won't. Her mother's machine is still her favourite.
