Hi All

I'm new to the site and looking at purchasing my first bike for fitness. Budget £500 - £600.
Think I'd like it to have disk breaks but not sure about front suspension forks. I would be most grateful for any advice, thanks everyone.

Best is pretty tough to quantify...I like my Cambridge, carbon fork for comfort too

This gets asked a lot, Boardman comes up often - advantage of coming from Halfords which are everywhere, disadvantage is it comes from Halfords

Mechanical disc brakes though rather than hydraulics as the Whyte

Join British cycling for 10% off at Halfords and lots of other benefits - Ride membership, £32 (you'll recoup it if buy a bike)

Nope but there are options with them. I think they are helpful on a commuter for use in traffic and rain but not for riding on quieter, less busy roads in the rain

Last longer too, but add weight

Can't speak for the rest but my Boardman Hybrid Comp is a really good bike for just road use

It's quite capable of decent speeds without slogging your guts out. I'm not keen on the Sram gears though as when changing to the lowest cogs it has a tendency to rough change however whilst in between the higher gears it's very smooth.

Nice looking machine as well
