Mesh sell brands like others, Asus, dell, hp, lenovo, etc. Often same models as curry's or others I think, just cheaper.
I hadn't looked at them for a while, didn't realise they were doing that now.

When I bought my desktop from them, they only did their own stuff.

From what I've seen JW has a mix of devices to claim the "never knowingly undersold". One is getting models made by brands as an exclusive to JW. You can't find cheaper if it's not sold elsewhere. The others they do seem to cost more from what I've seen. You do pay extra for 2 years warranty.

Argos in other things seem to sell older or less popular versions of things. We nearly bought a gaming computer from them but the spec was a bit weird so we bought direct from the brand instead. They do have a very good attitude to returns. We've had our money back a lot from them without any issues.

Yes, they do often sell older or more unusual models. Not always a bad thing, but it can be.

Assuming you meant JL...the partnership did away with their Never Knowingly Undersold policy almost 2 years ago.
If they don't have what you want, buy elsewhere, you mentioned them originally.
A lot of the manufacturers sell direct. Don't forget to check Quidco and the like. You also work for a big corporate - many (like mine) have company discounts/cashback schemes which are worth checking once you've chosen a product/retailers

I would use John Lewis or Scan. Most retailers are OK until something goes wrong. Currys is consistently at the bottom of rankings when trying to solve problems, and have a slightly sketchy relationship with consumer law (mainly because they don't train their staff properly).

Having said that, I just got an email from John Lewis saying my latest order has been delayed for some unspecified reason...... Scan have always been reliable though....

Just to see what local had I popped into town. One independent local co didn't look that good, more repairs and networking I reckon. So I went to an old established business IT company. £599 for a ryzen 5 and i5 Asus with 16gb ram, 512 ssd. Think that's a bit high.

Curry's, another Asus, i5, 16gb ram 256ssd or 513ssd I can't remember. Their best deal in store at £170 off full price! £629!!!! Oh and then the upwelling, that most people take, extra warranty, m365 and mcaffee av, the best one available.

Why on earth do they do all that bs? It's not discounted but overpriced. Stop the upwelling, better to just say they sell software off needed ask about it instead of upselling. No wonder I always feel like they're trying to rip us off whenever we go there. They're the only place locally that actually sell certain types of things, like a monopoly in a physical store.

Good call about the company discounts. Will check it out. I think I saw jl discount once.

Checked and nothing good showing. I last looked November/ December when they had argos and a load of other places. I reckon it's seasonal thing.

We get 4% off at JL, 6 or 7 at Currys and Argos, there’s possibly a Dell discount too

Remember that JL will give a 2 year guarantee as standard (or certainly used to). And if you have a JL credit card, you get extra points towards vouchers.

Just typed a long post and lost it when my laptop turned off. Time for s new one.

I've seen an Asus vivobook S15, i5 13500H, 16gb RAM and OLED screen. Seems decent spec for my needs.

Currys - £599 at £300 discount, 1 year manufacturers warranty
JL - £649 2 years warranty
Argos - £629 1 year manufacturers warranty

Now curry's offers extra 2 years extended cover for less than the £50 extra cost at JL IIRC.

Incidentally something close to the same thing is at £999 on Asus website unless I read the details wrong and its an i7 instead.

So does it really matter which store I buy it from out of those 3, which seem to be the best prices I've found? I've never claimed on warranty before, usually things go wrong for me after a year anyway. Which store option do you think is best?

I don't think it matters much.

I wouldn't pay for the extra warranty, if a computer is going to fail for reasons that would be covered, it will usually be in the first couple of months, or not for well over 2 years.

Now I'm wondering why 40gb RAM? I think I need 16gb but would the 40gbRAM model be worth getting if everything else was equivalent and it was same price? Is more really more? I saw it in a few cases, one I think the 40gb version was the same price as the 16gb one. BTW they seem to be the 12th gen with what I believe is energy efficient U end letter for the processor. So perhaps lower performance version of say i5 but bigger than normal RAM.

640k should be enough for anyone…🤓
