Due to the cuts at my work place my post is being phased out. I will get re-deployed to another post which will require quite a bit of training. I loved my previous job so i am pretty pissed off. I feel i am being pushed into this other role.
It will mean moving locations and leaving all my friends and work colleagues behind which i will really miss. I suppose i am one of those really lucky people who loves their job.

I have been waking up at 4 in the morning worrying about this is and my wife is getting concerned about me. I just dont seem to be able to stop thinking about it. I know i am still lucky to have a job but how can i switch off. The only positive is that i should find out whats happening to me within the next 4 weeks or so.

Sorry guys just wanted to get this off my chest

Could it mean the chance to meet new people, cycle new roads, learn new skills.

there will be a silver lining, you just may not be able to see it yet.

i hope it works out for you.

Invert your thinking:

Instead of making you redundant with your job, your employer wants to keep you. : Clearly they think highly of you and value your contribution to the point of committing to the cost of retraining you.

The fact that you have good friends and colleagues at work shows you are a nice guy who will make new freinds in a new workplace or location.

You enjoy your job - you can equally enjoy your new job

Agree 100% (or 110% for those who watch the Apprentice).
Your firm obviously rates you highly to want to keep you on.

Chap above beat me to it. Wise employers find a way of keeping good people, so treat it as a vote of confidence from your bosses, even if a bit of consolation prize short term.

L ook to the future with positive thinking, just briefly think of the sleepless nights you would have if you had a redundancy notice handed to you.

Thanks for all the kind words guys, I have plenty to be thankful for. I have to look upon it as an exciting opportunity

I recently had a period of CBT for depression and the key messages from that were that we cannot control the stuff the world throws at us, but we can control how we think about that stuff, and that emotions do not drive thought but thoughts drive emotions - plus, when the world throws some shitty stuff at us, that is because the world is sometimes a shitty place and it says nothing about us or our value as an individual.

So do keep a positive attitude and you will feel better about things!
