There will still be a desperate shortage.
It's not the best paid technical career per se, but it's full of opportunity and it's very diverse and hugely topical. Nutrition and dietetics will be growing too. I like my small part in it because I get a fascinating blend of chemistry, engineering, process technology and marketing with a lot of international travel/meeting people.

And the UK education system isn't helping matters. Food Science A-levels are being abandoned apparently.

The applied sciences at degree level are poorly served by careers advisors who themselves are poorly prepared to give sound advice on a wide spectrum of degree courses.

Agreed. We'll have to import from Ireland, Netherlands, France, Spain .... and they have difficulty finding people too.

Barbecue banana is a winner, next time you have a barbecue once all the cooking (cremating) is done put a slice down the middle of the banana and insert a chunk of chocolate, wrap up in silver foil and dump on barbecue and leave it while you eat.
Oh leave the skin on it.
When you have finished eating open it up and peel the (now black) skin off and enjoy.
